Wastewater treatment for marine vessels

Wastewater treatment for marine vessels

Hamworthy’s Super Trident sewage treatment plants have been widely regarded as standard specification on all vessels up to the largest cruise liners. Since 1963, over 10,000 Super Trident sewage treatment plants have been installed on ships around the world providing extensive operational and performance benefits.

Due to the extended aeration process utilised, Super Trident sewage treatment plants are highly developed and efficient for marine applications. Our proven capability ensures product performance above and beyond the guidelines set out by the IMO.

Our STA-C & ST-C range were the first systems in the market to be certified in meeting the new MEPC.159(55) standard. Already, leading ship-builders have placed orders for the new systems for over 900 vessels.

Wärtsilä Sewage Treatment Plants

Wärtsilä Sewage Treatment Plants

The Wärtsilä Super Trident sewage treatment plant is the cost-effective and safe answer to disposing of waste at sea, maintaining the quality of the world’s oceans.

Our sewage treatment plants are certified to meet IMO MEPC 227(64) guidelines, which will be applicable to new ships from 1 January 2016.

Optimised for the treatment of black and grey wastewater flows, and suitable for conventional gravity and vacuum fed collection systems, all plants are controlled automatically. This allows unattended operation, with reduced maintenance requirements and lower long-term operating costs.

The systems are compact and modular in design, suitable for between-deck installations, and are adaptable to customer new build specifications.

IMO has adopted RESOLUTION MEPC.227(64) with revised guidelines for effluent standards and performance test procedures for sewage treatment plants.

These guidelines, adopted in October 2012, which supersede resolution MEPC.159(55), include the standards of section 4.2 that specifically apply to passenger ships operating in MARPOL Annex IV special areas and which intend to discharge treated sewage effluent into the sea.

The ACO Clarimar MF® range of sewage treatment plants are fully certified by Bureau Veritas (BV) to IMO MEPC.227(64) [excluding §4.2].

Manufacturing, Test and Quality Management are certified to ISO 9001:2009 / ISO 9001:2008 and EC MED Module D.
